American Tower Corporation (ATC) Digital Skills Initiative (Ongoing)

The America Towers Corporation (ATC) Digital Skills Initiative Wootlab Foundation, in partnership with ATC, is addressing one of Nigeria’s most pressing challenges, the digital divide, by providing free digital literacy training through 50 Digital Centres across 17 states; Abia, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Enugu, Imo, Lagos, Ogun, Osun, Oyo, Rivers, Plateau, Sokoto, and Zamfara. This initiative is strategically designed to bring digital skills and literacy directly to rural and underserved communities, where access to technology and educational resources is extremely limited. Nigeria’s digital economy is growing rapidly, yet millions of students in rural areas remain excluded due to a lack of access to computers, the internet, and digital learning opportunities. In many schools, students have never used a computer or even understood the potential of digital tools for learning, employment, and entrepreneurship. This gap significantly limits their ability to compete in education, secure meaningful employment, or explore business opportunities. Over 88% of the beneficiaries of this program are students from these communities, making this initiative a lifeline for young learners who would otherwise be left behind. The remaining participants include entrepreneurs (4%), unemployed youth (7%), and working professionals (1%), ensuring that the program also uplifts broader community members who seek digital empowerment. The program equips beneficiaries with foundational digital skills, including basic computer use, internet navigation, CBT exam readiness, etc. By delivering training directly in rural and peri-urban communities, the initiative removes barriers that have historically prevented students from accessing digital learning. This approach not only improves individual knowledge and capabilities but also strengthens the capacity of entire communities to participate in the digital economy. Since August 2025 the initiative has trained more than 30,000 beneficiaries, creating immediate opportunities for education, employment, and entrepreneurship while laying the foundation for long-term economic growth. For many students, this program represents their first-ever encounter with a computer, opening doors to a world of learning, innovation, and self-advancement that was previously inaccessible. Beyond individual impact, the initiative contributes to the development of a digitally skilled workforce, enhances state-level competitiveness, and accelerates Nigeria’s broader digital transformation agenda. Importantly, the project aligns with global development goals. It advances SDG 4 (Quality Education) by providing equitable access to digital learning, SDG 5 (Gender Equality) by ensuring women and girls participate fully in the digital space, and SDG 8 (Decent Work & Economic Growth) by equipping a new generation with skills for sustainable livelihoods in a rapidly evolving digital economy. Through strategic partnerships and targeted interventions, Wootlab Foundation and ATC are ensuring that underserved communities are not left behind in Nigeria’s digital revolution. By empowering students and community members with digital and financial literacy, the initiative is not only closing the gap in technology access but also planting the seeds for a more inclusive, innovative, and prosperous Nigeria.

Seplat Teachers Empowerment Program (STEP)

The Seplat Teachers Empowerment Programme (STEP) continues to support teachers with the knowledge, skills and tools needed to create more engaging and effective learning experiences for students across Nigeria. A collaboration between Seplat Energy and NNPC Ltd, STEP focuses on strengthening teachers’ capacity in critical thinking, leadership, self-improvement and the practical application of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) in the classroom. Since its inception, the programme has empowered 1,334 teachers from public and private secondary schools across Edo and Delta States. In 2025, which marked the fifth cohort of the programme, reached an additional 650 teachers. Training sessions were held in Edo State from July 28–29 and in Delta State from July 31–August 1, bringing the programme’s total number of teachers reached to nearly 2,000. As a strategic partner to Seplat Energy, Wootlab Foundation has contributed to the 2024 and 2025 editions of STEP by supporting the programme’s digital learning and capacity-building components. This has included developing customised learning pathways on the Microsoft Community Training (MCT) platform, deploying digital courses covering areas such as productivity tools, generative AI, soft skills, digital marketing and entrepreneurship, and facilitating interactive learning sessions during the physical workshops. During the 2025 edition, Wootlab Foundation led sessions focused on helping teachers understand how digital tools can improve classroom efficiency and address everyday challenges in both public and private school environments. Teachers were introduced to practical tools they could immediately incorporate into their teaching, alongside a hands-on onboarding session on the Microsoft Community Training platform to encourage self-paced and continuous learning beyond the physical training. The programme also provided participating teachers with tablets and digital accessories to support their continued learning and application of digital skills. Beyond technology, the training covered leadership, effective communication, recycling and sustainability, reflecting the programme’s broader focus on developing well-rounded educators. An important feature of STEP 2025 was the opportunity for teachers to develop entrepreneurial projects using locally sourced recyclable materials from their classrooms. Through this activity, teachers were encouraged to think creatively about local challenges, develop practical solutions and explore opportunities for additional income while contributing to more sustainable communities. The most innovative projects received cash prizes For Wootlab Foundation, our contribution to STEP reflects our commitment to strengthening education through digital skills and scalable capacity-building initiatives. By equipping teachers with relevant tools, knowledge and confidence, we support a multiplier effect that extends beyond the individual educator to the students and communities they serve. Through partnerships such as STEP, Wootlab Foundation continues to support the development of educators who are better equipped to navigate a rapidly changing digital world and prepare the next generation for the opportunities ahead.

Girls in ICT Drive

Girls in ICT Drive

At Wootlab Foundation, we believe that every girl should have the opportunity to explore technology, develop digital skills and see herself as a future creator, innovator and leader in the digital economy. This belief continues to shape our commitment to advancing gender inclusion and expanding access to technology for young people. Through our Girls in ICT Drive, we engaged female students across multiple secondary schools in the Federal Capital Territory, creating opportunities for them to learn about technology in an engaging and practical way. The drive brought together interactive conversations, coding activities, digital games and problem-solving challenges designed to introduce students to the possibilities within ICT while making technology accessible and enjoyable. Beyond learning about digital tools, the girls were encouraged to think about technology as a space where they can create solutions, pursue careers and contribute to their communities. The sessions also highlighted the achievements of women in technology and innovation, giving students relatable examples of women who are already building, leading and creating within the sector. The enthusiasm of the students demonstrated the value of early exposure to technology. For many young girls, having the opportunity to interact with digital tools, learn about different technology careers and hear the stories of women making an impact can be an important first step towards seeing themselves in the industry. The Girls in ICT Drive reflects Wootlab Foundation’s broader commitment to Quality Education (SDG 4), Gender Equality (SDG 5), and Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8). We recognise that bridging the gender gap in technology requires more than providing access to digital skills. It requires creating environments where girls can build confidence, discover their potential, access positive role models and pursue opportunities without being limited by gender. As we continue our work to expand digital inclusion, Wootlab Foundation remains committed to ensuring that more girls have the knowledge, confidence and opportunities to participate meaningfully in the digital future. Girls belong in technology. Their ideas belong in the future.
